Concepts and Challenges in Tanach

Course Description

In this class we will explore certain passages in the Tanach that are particularly troublesome, either from a conceptual, ethical, or textual perspective. Examples include the stories of the Binding of Isaac, Yehuda and Tamar, and David and Batsheva. We will look at different mefarshim (Biblical commentators) who deal with such passages and attempt to reconcile them, and look at how we can resolve challenges that arise as we learn through the Tanach. Please note that this class requires a minimum of 7 paying students in order to proceed. If this number is not reached, the class may be discontinued.

About Mrs. Bracha Krohn
Bracha Krohn holds a B.A. in Judaic Studies and English Literature from Stern College. She is pursuing her M.A. in Bible from Yeshiva University's Bernard Revel Graduate School. She and her family recently made aliya from Cleveland, where she taught Talmud and Bible for 7 years at Fuchs Mizrachi School as well as a weekly shiur in the Women's Beit Midrash of Cleveland. She is currently teaching at Midreshset Moriah, Sha'alvim for Women and Efrat's Women's Beit Midrash. She also serves on the educational staff of Camp Stone each summer.
