Course Description

Kabbalah and Reincarnation: The Restoration of the Soul will explore the basic principles of the science of reincarnation in Kabbalah as taught by the Ari'zal haKadosh. The emphasis will be to understand how our lives are reflections of the spiritual tikkunim required by our souls, how it can take many lifetimes to complete the cycle of restoring the soul to its place and completeness, and expanding our understanding of time, age and spiritual evolution.

The course will open to basic theological questions about the meaning of life and death, the reason for Creation, and the purpose of man, all questions this material invariably arouses.

We will also confront the basic question: Do I die?, the Torah's perspective on the sanctity and divinity of the individual. We will learn why the Sages called the teaching of Reincarnation God's kindness to the soul.

The answers we hope to find often contain deep healing insights in our relationships with God and human beings.

About Rabbi Avraham Chira
Rabbi Avraham Chira received smicha from Rabbi Benayahu Shmueli, Rosh Yeshivat HaMekubalim, Nahar Shalom, in Jerusalem. He has been a student and teacher in the Yeshiva since 1993. He has taught for twelve years at the Berot Bat Ayin Seminary, specializing in Likutei Moharan, and conducting workshops in meditation, and spiritual creative writing. He has also received a Masters Degree in Clinical Sociology & Family Therapy from the University of North Texas, Neve Yerushalayim Campus. He has published a novel and translates a newsletter for Nahar Shalom. Rabbi Avraham lives with his wife, Elisheva and their five children in Bat Ayin, Gush Etzion.

Welcome to Everyone, I hope it has been a happy, healthy, productive summer.

I have enclosed a document of notes entitled Principles of Reincarnation.

These notes are an attempt to prepare us to enter the text, The Gates of Reincarnation by the Ari'zal.

The text itself is dense and uses technical, structural language and assumes the reader has a great deal of knowledge prior to coming to the text. Hopefully these notes will help us to feel 'at home' with the ideas.

Because our zman is only two classes, we will cover what we can, and then, with your interest and consensus, continue with the class in the Fall Zman.

I very much look forward to returning with you to our Thursday nights learning together.
