Course Description

Exploring the intersection between the halachot of Shabbat and the art of food preparation. Included will be discussions of cooking before Shabbat with an eye towards reheating and service on Shabbat, and the aspects of food prep that take place on Shabbat itself. Don't be surprised if there are a few cooking tips and recipes thrown in as well!

Elul Zman: We only meet three times during this zman, so we will narrow the focus of the shiur to what kinds of food can be reheated on Shabbat.

About Rabbi Gabe Pransky
Rabbi Gavriel Pransky is originally from Philadelphia PA and now resides in Jerusalem. He spent many years learning Torah at Yeshivat Hamivtar with Rabbi Brovender as his Rosh Yeshiva. He has been the OU’s JLIC Torah Educator at the University of Illinois and the consulting Rabbi for that campus’ Hillel. He has taught classes in Yeshivat Hamivtar and Yeshivat Simchat Shlomo and several zmanim at WebYeshiva.

This shiur only meets three times during this short zman. As a result I will focus more narrowly on the subject of heating/re-heating food on Shabbos for these few sessions. In our first shiur today we will work backwards and forwards from select paragraphs in a practical halachik compendium, questioning and describing the process of formulating these conclusions from earlier works, and attempting to extrapolate from the page to real world application.
