What are we striving for? What are we praying for? How do the prayers our sages compose express those ideas? In the shiur we strive to understand the structure of the prayer In other words, we are doing reverse engineering. Instead of explaining the davening, we are doing what davening was like before the siddur was composed. We are putting our thoughts together of what we want to pray , and then seeing how the words our sages put together fit those goals immaculately and more than we can possibly think of ourselves.
