Course Description

Tisha B’Av, the ninth of Av, is a day of both destruction and resurrection.  It is the day of mourning as well as the ‘birthday’ of Mashiach. We will explore the paradoxical relationship between loss and redemption, and the necessity for each as the paradigm of growth and transformation in the Universe.

This class will examine the rabbinical and kabbalistic writings that guide us to a deeper understanding of suffering, and the ultimate joy that lies beneath Tisha B’Av, the day the spirit of Mashiach enters the world and how we can relate this pattern of growth to our personal lives.
