Weekly Lessons from the Parsha Vayeishev

Dear all

Sorry about last week! What a great parsha! So much excitement and drama! So many moments to learn from! We had a great discussion about the idea of "too much truth" and different facets of the brothers behaviour. We also got to explore ways we could learn out lessons from the parsha which we could apply to ourselves

Weekly Lessons from the Parsha Va'eira

Dear student

So fired up to have started a new zman with you, and what great timing as we are just in the second parsha of sefer Shemot!

I had a wonderful time discussing the transition from Breishit to Shemot and what we can learn out from the sefer as a whole with all of you, and getting your thoughts on the parsha.I hope you all enjoyed Rav Hirsch's insight into what the magicians were trying to accomplish -- he literally changes the way we have to think about those pasukim!

SO great to be learning with all of you again. See you next week!

Weekly Lessons from the Parsha Bo

Dear students

So much fun learning parsha Bo with you! So many great discussions -- whether the rogue linguistic one in the chat box, or what the plague of hoshek (darkness) is really accomplishing. Also, for those of you doubting the scariness of locusts, enjoy:

Weekly Lessons from the Parsha Beshalach

Dear students

Another great parsha! Great time learning with all of you this evening. Aside from a brief tangent on Star Wars and Star Trek we had a great discussion of what lessons we could learn from Moshe as a leader and what we, in this day and age, can learn out from the faith of the Jews at the parting of the sea.

Have a great week and a wonderful Shabbat!

February 3, 2016 3:00AM - 4:00AM
Weekly Lessons from the Parsha Mishpatim

Dear students

We had (what I hope was) a great shiur this evening. While almost every verse has relevance to our civil law and daily life we used the parsha as a whole to consider how fully the Torah sheba'al peh (oral Torah) informs the Torah sheb'ktav (written Torah). Additionally I recommend that you look at the mishnayot of the Bavas if you would like to further explore the synergy of the Torah sheba'al peh and this weeks parsha. ALSO I would encourage those of you who can to look at Rav Hirsch on 23:19 and the beautiful way he writes about the symbolic importance of the verse telling us not to cook the flesh of an animal in it's mother's milk.

As always a tremendous honor learning with you all. See you next week!
