As we all know, there are certain times of the year that are more "special" than others. The month of Elul and the High Holiday season through Yom Kippur and Sukkot is one such time. Indeed, it was during this time, long ago, that Moshe Rabbeinu reascended Har Sinai and received the Torah and the second set of Luchot (tablets). It is this Torah that we study today - symbolized by the second Luchot, which Moshe Rabbeinu himself carved out, not the Torah of the tablets which God Himself composed. It is the Torah of forgiveness, the Torah that stems, in part, from our own yearning and endeavors. It is the Torah given by God, but carved out (in some way or other) by Moshe Rabbeinu.

This is the Torah of Elul - the Torah in which we make that extra effort to understand what exactly it is that God wants from us and how exactly we can best fulfill that holy desire. It is the Torah that we carve out by means of that ever-so important extra effort. We learn longer, more intensely and with greater dedication and seriousness. This is the Torah that energizes us throughout the year, which helps us daven to the best of our abilities on Rosh HaShana and Yom Kippur, and which enables us to grow as HaKadosh Baruch Hu wants us to.

In order to help us all achieve the level of Talmud Torah that is appropriate for Elul Zman, we at WebYeshiva have decided to open our virtual doors to everyone who is willing to rise up to the challenge. Because of this we are offering shiurim at WebYeshiva during Elul Zman tuition free.  All that is required is that you come and learn with the seriousness that the month of Elul demands.

I wish you all a meaningful and productive Elul Zman.

Yours truly,

Rabbi Chaim Brovender
