Navi / Ketuvim (Bible: Prophets/Writings)
Rabbi Yehoshua Geller

For the first part of the zman students will study Megillat Rut, read on Shavuot. The text of the Megilla is well known by many, yet misunderstood by most. The true meaning and details of the story are right there in the pesukim, yet they often get overlooked. This class will go beyond the basics to look at the real meaning of the pesukim and the fascinating background story encoded within them. From Shavuot until the end of the zman students will study Megillat Eicha, which we read on Tisha B'av. Megillat Eicha is a terse yet deep text, containing many powerful ideas. The class will look to the Megilla for insights into the destruction of the Temple as brought down in the Midrash and read into the psukim.
