Kabbalah, Shalom Bayit & the Avot

Kabbalah, Shalom Bayit & the Avot

In this course join Rabbi Avraham Shira as he explores the relationships of the Patriarchs and Matriarchs, the holy couples that God used to create Am Yisrael. Through the  Kabbalah we will discover what the Zohar means when it says that the Avot ‘are The Chariots of the Divine Presence.’

Class description

Shalom and welcome to a new zman at Webyeshiva.org. Tomorrow night we will continue the series we began this summer, exploring the relationships of the ‘couples’ in the Torah. We spend an extensive time on Adam and Chava, learning from their lessons to our own in the area of shalom bayis.

Now we will begin to look at the Avot, the great Patriarchs and their wives and the details the Torah and the Sages give us about their relationships, through the lens of the Kabbalah and the understanding afforded us by the Sages in the Midrash and Talmud.

We will begin with Avraham and Sarah and the idea of listening, the many levels of listening and the benefits and difficulties of acquiring this extremely needed gift and developing that gift as a skill in all our relationships. I don’t thin we can overstate the importance of listening in our generation. Look forward to seeing all of you there.

Shalom and welcome to our look at the relationships of the Avot through the eyes of Torah and Kabbalah.
Tonight we will look at the meeting of Sarah and Abraham with the three angels who come with different messages for the patriarchs.
We will focus on the distinctions of how Sarah and Abraham respond to the promise that they will have a child of their own, and the nature of their communication about this. We will ask questions about faith and this manner of divine intervention and interpretation, and the relationship between Creator and Creation, especially focusing on the phenomena of prophecy.

Look forward to seeing all of you,
Avraham Shira

Shalom and welcome to our series on the Avot and Shalom Bayis.
Tonight we will speak briefly about the parting of Sarah and Avraham and protecting one’s spouse from trauma. Included in these ideas will be an overview of the intervention of God through Divine inspiration for one member of a couple, while another is not so informed, and the difficulties this presents to both members of a couple. Included in this discussion is the education of Yitzhak, and the environment in which he grew up and the difficulties of child rearing and the delegation of responsibilities in this most difficult of parental engagement.
Look forward to seeing all of you,
Avraham Shira

Shalom. Welcome to another night of exploring the relationships of the Patriarchs to learn keys and clues to better family relationships.

Tonight we will look at Yitzhak and Rivka, on their struggle and patience with not having children, and the brief episode in the palace of Avi Melech, which involves some curious details about intimacy in a couple, and their connection to the outside world.

Naturally these subjects are sensitive and teach us practices we might learn elsewhere.

Look forward to seeing all of you.

Shalom, welcome to our examination of the ways of the Patriarchs and Matriarchs in relationships. Tonight, we will look at one of the most famous triangles of love in history, Jacob, Rachel and Leah. The simple levels and the secret levels of these relationships reflect the entire structure of the creation of the Jewish people and the parallel development of the spiritual worlds by which God’s light enters the human realm.

Look forward to seeing you tonight.

Shalom. Tonight we will look at the difficult decision Yacov must make facing his brother Esav on return to Eretz Yisrael. The splitting into camps was a strategy that must have caused considerable consternation, to say the least. Also, how did his wives feel being parcelled out in rank and exposed to danger? Could there have been another way? What resources of faith did these women have to draw on in outright warfare with Esav? Did they feel diminshed by their status? And how does a husband protect his wife in dangerous times?
Hope to see you all there.
